錦鯉《Nishikigoi》
「生きた宝石」そして「泳ぐ芸術品」とも称される錦鯉は、日本を象徴する国魚として広く知られています。
200年以上前に観賞用として日本独自に改良された錦鯉は、その美しさと品格から、今や国内のみならず世界中で愛好され、錦鯉文化が広がりを見せています。
この伝統的な「生きた芸術品」を、ジャパネスク的な視点から捉え、現代的でキッチュな表現を取り入れたフォトアートとして展開しました。金箔をイメージした背景をはじめ、黒や白を基調にした多種多様な美しい錦鯉たちを、一匹一匹の魅力に合わせて撮影しています。

Nishikigoi, often referred to as "living jewels" and "swimming works of art," are widely recognized as Japan’s national fish and a symbol of Japanese beauty.

More than 200 years ago, these ornamental carp were uniquely bred in Japan, and today, thanks to their elegance and refined appearance, they are cherished not only domestically but also around the world. The culture surrounding Nishikigoi continues to flourish globally.

In this project, we present these traditional "living artworks" through a Japanesque lens, reimagined as modern, kitsch-inspired photo art. Each Nishikigoi is captured in a way that highlights its individual charm, set against gold-leaf-inspired backgrounds and a variety of compositions in black, white, and other tones.

(A photo book will be published by Shogakukan in November 2024, with photography exhibitions planned in Japan and abroad from 2025 onward.)
