Butterfly -LIVING IN JAPAN-

Butterfly -LIVING IN JAPAN-

Japan is home to approximately 250 species of butterflies. In an era before digital cameras, these delicate creatures were captured in stunning detail using ultra-large 8×10 inch (approximately 203×254 mm) sheet film.

In the series "Portraits of Butterflies," the vibrant beauty of these butterflies is rendered as if they were performing together on a single stage. The dynamic compositions evoke the works of Itō Jakuchū, with each scale on the butterflies’ wings appearing as though it were meticulously painted by hand with a fine brush. The result is a vivid, painterly expression of nature’s intricate artistry.
